Pretty Posy
Oil on Canvas Board
35 x 45 coms
This was started more than a month back and has seen many a painting day! After it was started came exams, after exams came outings and finally, after all that this was completed. I'm actually not sure if it is, but I have declared it over, as I need the easel to get on with my painting work and can't have this pretty posy staring at me.
The downside is that the whole painting area is sticky with oil paints, there are paints , half dried on the easel, there are brushes, dipped in turpentine and this will require at least an hour of my scraping and cleaning exercise!!!!
But all said and done, this is a good piece of art, inspired by my 'Anthesis'. I am glad she did her own thing here and I think the drawing is superb!

O'er the hills and vales- Oil on Canvas
This is a small oil done on canvas, copied from a card with a similar picture. The strokes are quite mature and smooth. She has yet to get used to the thick oil paints, as they are new to her. There were some trees which she apparently painted but removed . this is a point to note, as this indicates that she has understood the versatility of oils, as opposed to other media! I hadn't expected this...or maybe she has seen me doing this at times.... altering/ removing the entire backdrop from a painting and the learning was there in her subconcious.
All in all, not a very bad attempt. Colour mixing is quite good too.

Danseuse- Soft pastels on paper - A3
A figure drawing of a Bharatnatyam ( Classical Indian dance form belonging to Southern part of India, Asia) dancer, done with soft pastels.
The proportions were little out of place. Colouring is smooth and steadfast.
This sketchbook paper, which is a little rough in texture, but not grainy, seems to be ideal for soft pastels.

KFC- Acrylic on A4 canvas sheet
Output of a Plein air session . KFC in Hiranandani, Powai.
The assignment was a little tough for her age. It was good learning though, as she was confronted with the usual Plein air confusions about what to retain, what to phase out, which angkle to cover, how to capture light. Cityscapes are daunting but they are great learning lessons and hopefully the young age will make her understand perspective and panaroma. She couldn't complete it on the spot and finished it about 3 days later!
